The leadership at our protestant Christian church in the Santa Clara Valley of California has expressed great concern that the majority of kids raised in the American Christian church, stop attending or participating in church after high school. You yourself, Joe, a college student of twenty-four, were baptized when you were 14, and you participated in a ‘small group’ bible study throughout high school, but you don’t attend church regularly at this time. (Full disclosure: Neither did I at your age, and with the same raised-in-the-church background.) The reason cited by some studies on this is that parents have not even told their kids what they believe, and why. While we prayed with you as you grew up, each night since you were born, read Bible stories to you and spoke of our faith to you, and took you to church and Sunday School, and certainly showed you our values over the years, neither your mother, nor I have sat with you and told you, in great detail, from start to finish, exactly what we believe.
So I decided to write this. The following is what I, your dad, believe and why, in under 50 pages. This is for you, Joseph. Copyright Kim Normington 2018 Email contact: admin@lettertojoseph.org
